12 HRS AGO - By weird co-incidence I’ve been having nosebleeds for a few months despite it having stopped over the last three weeks. I’ve been referred to a specialist clinic locally for it to be looked at and, I hope, Cauterised, to stop the annoying occurrences from happening in the future.
With the heady heights that West Ham have found themselves in this season the metaphorical nosebleeds have almost coincided with my real ones in their timing. Of course there’s a big difference in that the ones involving my nose are unwelcome whereas the, figurative, Premier League table related one is something that we’re all enjoying and one that I’ve not had to get a doctor’s appointment for.
During lockdown I’ve looked forward to matchdays with the same excitement I used to enjoy in my youth. Despite not being able to attend games no 2 son and I have watched every minute of every fixture and enjoyed the performances immensely. Riding high in the league seems a distant memory for me and an experience Collapse

2 DAYS AGO - GUEST POST BY GUY NASH
What matters?
Life is a mystery to most of us but perhaps West Ham’s most famous manager Ron Greenwood summed it up best by saying that:
Life is all about being given chances (and not taking them).
Some years later the player who scored the first ever hat trick in the Premier League uttered:
When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.
Well things have been rather quiet ever since in Eric’s philosophical steakhouse and perhaps that is a good thing as many of us are still pondering these words from 1995. The most profound reply to questions about life, the universe and everything was perhaps by Tiger Woods when he replied:
It is what it is.
It turns out that you can use this as the answer to almost any inquiry. Do try it as it can really annoy other people!
There are important things in all our lives that quite rightly occupy our daily thoughts, but our lives would so be much easier if we did not Collapse

7 DAYS AGO - Expectation is usually, pretty much, what it says on the tin. It’s what we expect as a minimum from an activity. Things do, however, have a habit of getting more complicated.
Since the win at the weekend I’ve noticed many on-line conversations start to talk about top four finishes. I actually found myself thinking about that as I spoke with no.2 son on Sunday evening and commented to him “imagine going to watch Champion’s League at the bowl next season.”

The point at which I usually start to buy in to the hype is exactly the point when it usually becomes a false dawn and things head in a ‘negative elevation’ direction (to quote recently installed phone running app parlance…I should add that it’s my son doing the running and not me.) I prefer the old fashioned ‘downhill’ phrase personally.
Towards the back end of last year the team were flirting with a top four place. Rather than start talking about the possibility of finishing the season in that spot I Collapse

21/02/2021 - I was a bit conflicted about todays match. When Sean Whetstone asked me for a prediction, I said 2-1 West Ham. I figured our speed and pressure up front would force a few mistakes from Jose’s crew. The conflict was something different. It was about desire. Of course I wanted to beat them, go nine points ahead of them, and continue to loiter in the top four. But I was taken by what David Moyes said to The Times.
“I want to get away from that feeling that you have to take this chance now,” Moyes said. “To say, ‘This is your chance to do it or you’re not going to do it at all, that’s not that way I’m building. I want to build something which is going to be consistent and regular. I expect us to do it next year and the year after, because that’s my job.”
To that end, I didn’t want today to turn into the be-all-end-all of West Ham existence. But boy, does it feel wonderful.

Easter Monday, the 31st of March 1986 – Cliff Richard & The Young Ones featuring Hank Marvin were number one with ‘Living Doll’, Clockwise topped the UK box office and Sir Peter Pears died three days later. West Ham United, meanwhile, secured a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in front of 27,568 at Upton Park.
West Ham were without the suspended Alvin Martin, sent off at Arsenal earlier in the month, so Paul Hilton came in for his second and final appearance of the season. Tottenham were without Glenn Hoddle but former Hammer Paul Allen lined up for the visitors in his first appearance back at the Boleyn Ground since departing for Spurs the previous summer. Future Hammer Clive Allen, Paul’s cousin, appeared as a Spurs substitute.
John Lyall’s hosts, fresh from a 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge 48 hours earlier, came close early on when Geoff Pike and Mark Ward were denied by Ray Clemence. West Ham took the lead in the 17th minute when Frank Collapse

This week the argument that West Ham is performing so well this season as opposed to other seasons because of no fans are in the ground reared its head, again, after Talksport’s roving reporter, and West Ham fan, “The Moose”, Ian Abrahams, claimed our win against Sheffield United came about because of it.
The Moose was derided by many in social media land but is there any legs in this argument? In my opinion, no, there are no legs in the argument. I do accept there can be a correlation between the fans on the pitch and the performance of the players during a game, but I can’t see that being replicated across a whole season and I think it detracts from the great work being done by David Moyes and his coaching team along with the players’ hard work and effort they put in.

15/02/2021 - The backup striker argument, or lack thereof, was once again front and center at The London Stadium today when Antonio was ruled out for….surprise….a hamstring injury. When Moyes signed Lingard on loan, his supposed ability to play anywhere along the front line was given as a reason. It became more important when January ended and nobody replaced Haller. Now I have been, and still am supportive of that decision in that saving the money for the summer as opposed to signing yet another Sullivan-Agent special felt prudent. Today did nothing but strengthen that opinion.
The first opportunity of the day happened in the 5th minute when Rice stepped up to take a free kick from just outside the Sheffield United eighteen yard box. He took it low, and Ramsdale went down to push the ball wide. But when Dawson chased it down, he was fouled by Stevens and for the first time this season a referee pointed to the spot for a West Ham penalty. Buuuuuut, VAR had other ideas and although it Collapse

1 DAY AGO - Yes, we did lose the game against Manchester City after all. 1:2. Not nice. Defeats are rarely a cause for celebration. But I could not be prouder of our team as I still am today almost 48 hours after the event. My heart is continually bursting with a glowing sense of self-esteem over our team.

That was a quality performance from us I simply didn’t see coming. I knew we were pretty decent. Although I had no idea just HOW good we really are. At no point did you get the impression we were out of this. Or feel like a drubbing was on the cards. Like the ones suffered during the footballing lessons dished out by City in recent seasons. It used to be men against boys. Now it was one good PL side losing out to an even better one.

3 DAYS AGO - I don’t know why, but as I prepared to watch today’s match I thought about a college basketball game from 1985. Now my best mate Jon will think I am saying this to get under his skin, but I’m not. Georgetown vs Villanova for the NCAA title. Georgetown was simply awesome that year, seemingly invincible and palpably frightening to play against. Conventional wisdom was that the huge underdogs from Villanova would slow it down, hope to contain the monsters from Washington, and then see if they could possibly cause an upset. The coach of Villanova, Rollie Massimino, did nothing to change that thinking in the buildup. Then, from the opening tip off, ‘Nova went after them. They ran, they shot the lights out of the place, and they won. Nine times out of ten the result would have been different. Not that night. David Moyes probably thinks a basketball is an oddly colored football, and this is just another match on the EPL fixture list. But I hoped that West Ham looked at a 1-0 loss the same Collapse

27th April 2003 – Busted were number one with ‘You Said No’ and Johnny English topped the UK box office. Meanwhile, Trevor Brooking made his managerial debut as West Ham United emerged victorious from a Premier League encounter against Manchester City with a 1-0 win at Maine Road in front of 34,815.
Non-executive director Brooking had been placed in caretaker charge of the West Ham team after manager Glenn Roeder had been taken ill shortly after the Hammers’ previous match, a 1-0 home win over Middlesbrough which had kept survival hopes alive. Former England colleague Kevin Keegan welcomed his old international team-mate as manager of Manchester City. Ex-Hammer Marc-Vivien Foe was in City’s starting line-up, while Steve Lomas returned to his former club. David James and Trevor Sinclair both started for the Irons and would go on to play for Manchester City.

6 DAYS AGO - Greetings Everyone!
Well, my, my my….. this article is a challenge, because I still just wanna talk about all the great things about Sunday, however, seeing as it has already been accurately and cleverly by Mr. Hautzig, then Mr. Hamburg’s entertaining recount of what stood out in particular to him, not to mention Gav’s always clever and sensible words, and a surprise treat from Iain being interviewed, it would be a bit redundant to give just another spin, mostly, in their own words, to basically the same things I would say, in my own words…… :) plus, it’s Wednesday, time to prepare for a trip to the Blue side of Manchester.
Still, one “succinct” ;)) way to say it though, is the fact that it NEVER gets old beating Spurs, does it? Mostly because it honestly doesn’t happen that often, due to the cold hard fact, is that those over privileged doughnuts in North London, and their worldwide support base do have a top quality squad, which Collapse

My club: Iain Dale on his love for West Ham
Broadcaster Iain Dale remembers the perfect day at Wembley and the decision to leave Upton Park for good. Interview by John Aizlewood
Why West Ham?
It wasn’t in my genes: my dad was a Blackpool fan who’d seen them in the 1948 FA Cup final. I was brought up near Saffron Walden in Essex, but I must admit I supported Manchester United until the shame was too much when they were relegated in 1974. My best friend was a West Ham fan and, being easily led I followed. I assumed there’d be no more relegations…
Early memories
My first game at Upton Park was Alan Curbishley’s debut against Chelsea in March 1975. I went with my cousin, uncle and dad and we stood on the corner of the North Bank. We lost 1-0, but my eyes were on stalks: it was a war zone. I got a season ticket around 1990. I’ve had one ever since.
Best of times

Continuing my series of past games looks at the draw at home to Sheffield United. What a difference now compared to then.
West Ham came into this home game winless in their previous 5 matches with the buzz from beating Manchester United the previous month fading. This was a worrying performance with a team apparently packed with talent that made Manuel Pellegrini’s insistence the Hammers could have won this match hard to swallow. Although performing better than in their recent defeat against Everton and Crystal Palace the team failed to create chances for the £45m forward Sebastien Haller. “It is not easy to create chances against Sheffield United,” Pellegrini said. “He must play with some players near him.”
Memories of the bitter row between the clubs hung over proceedings with fans goading the visitors by holding up Tevez masks in the first league fixture between the teams since the 2007 season that saw Sheffield United relegated from the Premier Collapse

Greetings everyone.
As I begin my latest work, I watch the replay of the latest match in front of my t.v., (which is about to take a dump most likely to overuse during a double dip pandemic which doesn’t seem to be subsiding…..) as a matter of fact, it seems to have a brain, and self defense mechanisms that cause it to mutate just as vaccines are out, and hopefully, slow the spread.
However, only thanks to an honest West Ham United victory over a Sheffield United, who, in spite of looking relatively aggressive last season, and, if not for Fabianski, would have scored at least one, look to be headed for relegation, we ended up grinding the win out with a little glitter on it, as I will try very hard not to remain in “Apocalypse Now” mode.

1 DAY AGO - Glenn Roeder 1955-2021

Everyone at West Ham United has been left deeply saddened by the death of former manager Glenn Roeder at the age of 65. Glenn joined the Hammers as a coach under Harry Redknapp in 1999 before being appointed manager in the summer of 2001. The Irons finished seventh in the Premier League in his first season in charge, 2001/02, with an exciting team led by Paolo Di Canio, Frederic Kanoute, Trevor Sinclair and a young Michael Carrick, Joe Cole and Jermain Defoe.
A month after winning the Premier League Manager of the Month award, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour in April 2003 and, after receiving emergency treatment, returned to work in July of the same year before departing the Boleyn Ground the following month.
David Sullivan and David Gold said…

I can still remember how his football used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people cheer

Bad news on the doorstep

When I saw all the fans gathered outside
Something touched me deep inside
The day that Bobby died
February the 24th is a day West Ham fans should always remember. Not only is it a day that is sombre as we remember the life of possibly the greatest player not only to wear West Ham’s shirt but, also Englands finest player as well. It is also the day that John Lyall was born. West Ham’s greatest ever manager.

22/02/2021 - It’s not often that your team wins a Cup Final in February. But apparently we did just that yesterday. I’m not quite sure if it was Spurs’ Cup Final or ours, but we did win this somehow.
Although looking at the stats and considering how much of a workout my matchday screwdriver had to endure, I’m still a bit baffled how we managed to get all three points regardless.
Dare I say it ? This is what good teams do. They get a narrow lead over the line, by hook or by crook, even if they’ve been under the cosh for long spells in a game.
Talking about being under the cosh, I’m not gonna lie to you, but I didn’t sleep at all the night before, tossing and turning in my Futon style bed, gazing at the alarm clock on the bedside table every five minutes, never getting a proper dose of shut-eye until the sun was up again on Sunday.

18/02/2021 - As you know, over the last year a new WHTID site has been developed. It’s taken far longer than I originally envisaged, and many apologies for that. The current site was built in around 2013 and is creaking. The new site will be the fourth incarnation.
But we are nearing the launch of WHTID 4.0, which will hopefully be in the next few weeks once everything has been ironed out and tested to destruction.
